North East mayor to approve significant investment into EV and battery technology training project

North East mayor Kim McGuinness is poised to approve a £14.6 million investment into a new training initiative for electric vehicle (EV) and battery technology, led by Nissan. The project, called MADE NE, will establish training facilities at the International Advanced Manufacturing Strategic Site (IAMSS) in Sunderland and is the first initiative under the region's £160 million Investment Zone.

The North East Combined Authority is expected to support the scheme with up to £9.7 million. McGuinness highlighted that this investment aligns with her commitment to supporting the automotive industry and will create well-paying, high-skilled jobs while enhancing the region's reputation in advanced manufacturing. Nissan’s Adam Pennick emphasized that the new facility will help develop the talent necessary for future automotive innovations.
