Intercity battery train starts testing on rail network after successful low speed running completed at Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.

The UK has started testing its first intercity battery-powered train on routes between cities like York and Liverpool. This eight-week trial aims to assess the battery's performance, fuel efficiency, and ability to reduce emissions. The train, developed in partnership between TPE, Angel Trains, and Hitachi Rail, previously passed low-speed tests and is the first UK intercity train to replace a diesel engine with battery technology.
